POSITIVE RESULT AT THE ANTIDOPING TEST IN STUTTGART 2006

During the German Open Championships 2006 at Stuttgart, Germany, anti-doping testing were performed by the IDSF Anti-Doping Commission headed by IDSF Anti-Doping Director, Ko de Mooy.

We regret to have to inform you that the test result of the Lithuanian athlete Edita Daniute was positive. Sibutramine, a forbidden stimulant, was found in the A-sample. The positive test was confirmed by the analyses of the B-sample.

This anti-doping rule violation is now under the responsibility of the IDSF Disciplinary Council, that will take a decission very soon.

Very interesting piece of news.  From what I've heard, the IDSF events have their doping tests reasonably well organised.  (Unless somebody can tell me otherwise)

I haven't heard about or seen any anti-doping testing at the big 3 English competitions (UK Open, Blackpool, International)... can somebody confirm or deny if there is any?

I doubt there is any...

As for what is Sibutramine, it is usualy prescribed for weight loss. Here is a link for a rigorous defintion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sibutramine.

I think one has to be careful with this subject as she might had a medical condition which required this substance but on the other hand, this product is clearly in the list of banned substances: http://www.idsf.net/anti-doping/WADA_list_2007.pdf.  This product also exists under comercial names like "Meridia" or "Reductil" and maybe she did not realise it was banned.

Since people seem always to talk about positive tests, here are some good news from the last World Latin Champs:

TEST RESULTS WORLD LATIN KARLSRUHE*

As reported before a team of the IDSF Anti-Doping Commission headed by the IDSDF Anti-Doping Director performed ant-doping tests at the World Championships Latin, held at Karlsruhe, Germany, on September 30th 2006. 6 athletes have been tested, 3 ladies and 3 man: Motshegetsi Mabuse, Germany Neil Jones, the Netherlands Matej Krajcer, Slovenia Peter Stokkebroe, Danmark Kristina Joel Stokkebroe, Denmark Wei Wei, China. All tests are reported negative by the laboratory. Congratulations to the athletes tested. THINK POSITIVE, TEST NEGATIVE.

That's an interesting list of 6 dancers who were tested at the World Amateur Latin.  I would have thought it would be better to concentrate on dancers only in the final...

Back to Edita's case - not knowing a substance was banned hasn't been a plausible excuse for athletes in other disciplines.

Looking on the wikipedia entry - I'm surprised that this is performance enhancing.  I can't see any reference to beneficial effects (other than becoming slimmer - but I doubt Edita needs to do that).  Unless there's another drug with the same name???

It is part of the Amphetamines group and as such is a performance enhancer. I agree on the fact that at her level, she cannot not know about forbidden substances.

I don't know. This stuff was originally used as an antidepressant. Also, testing for dancesport hasn't been around very long. I know another dancer who tested positive for something only because it was in a cold medicine he was taking.

I checked out the list of prohibited "Performance Enhancing" Drugs. Please, someone tell me how is cannabis performance enhancing? I mean, I'm sure we all enjoyed it at some point, and those who did, please tell me, did you feel that your performance enhance? The only things enhancing when you're high on pot is your laughing ability, sleeping ability, and of course let us not forget our eating ability....but dancing?! I don't think so.

Now, I’m not a dope smoking hippy. However, I did always think that prohibiting Cannabis as a Performance Enhancing drug, was a bit...well...ridiculous.

I wonder...in the Olympics do they test the snowboarders?! hmmm 8-)

Thank you for making me smile and LAUGH - but no cannabis

Once I asked very high IDSF official "Can I drink this" - a drink sold in super market and got answer "I do not know"  If officials do not know how can they want the couples to know?.
