The Road to Success, what does it take?

10. maaliskuuta 2008 19:58

So I am am wondering what are the best couples doing daily to achieve top performace?

Things such as:

How many trainers do you have that you work with?
How many lessons a week or per month do you take?
How many hours a week do you practise outside the lessons?
Do you make a plan of how you will practise, like a scheduel? if so describe.
Do you agree on competitions you will do ahead of time?

If you are answering this post, I hope its from personal experience or something you've researched from someone who has success.

Thanks

Interesting post...

Well I don't think there is a miracle solution to be become a top dancer. First and foremost, you have to be in the right circumstances meaning having the right partner at the right time with the right coach in a supportive environement. There are many examples among top dancers of cirumstances being in their favor at at a crucial point of their carreers. There are also many examples around of very talented dancers who will never go very far for all sorts of reasons.

Practically, you need time to develop, a lot of cash these days, and above all an extraordinary dedication not to say a madness to improve always and always day after day. (Not many people are ready for this).

Physically, you need a great level of fitness so you have to look after you body like crazy.

Technically, provided your brain can work and analyse what you do, and that you have access to the right information to help you become a better dancer, there is no reason why you cannot improve endlessly. (in reality, it is difficult to have the right info all along your carreer)

Personality wise, you need to be a team player and be able to gel with your partner, trust each other to create something you both truly believe and that peolple will believe in. (This is the hard bit I think for most couples)

Performance wise, you have to realise what it is that you want to portray on the floor which relates to the previous point (personnality).

Mentally, you need to be ultra-confident no matter what people say in order to fight your way through.

Finally, the best dancers are the ones who can manage all the above in the best way.

So then the number of lessons, the comps, the hours...well it is all down to you to create a system which works for your partnership. The more you train, the better you will become but you need to rest as well so it is a balance that a couple has to find. That is the difficult one !

My two pences worth...

Good luck !
